It's the bottom that's tricky. The sheet that you mention (I've seen several versions) is very sketchy. The idea is that the top piece is supposed to be a perfect ellipse. The chisel cut is the problem. I don't really know what the angle should be.

WebbI've been using the jig for several months now and it works very well. You still have to be careful of the final shape of the chisel but it is easier than doing it free hand. Sharpening the skew is a little harder but the jig helps a lot. At least the angles at the cutting edge of the chisels are consistent and correct. My little skew for pen turning is a bit too small for those larger things I want to turn.
